Welcome to the
Australia Telescope National Facility
CSIRO, Australia's national science agency, operates a number of world-class radio astronomy observatories across
Australia. The observatories, known collectively as the Australia Telescope National Facility or ATNF, consists of the Parkes
radio telescope, the Australia Telescope Compact Array and Mopra radio telescope. A fourth telescope, the Australian Square
Kilometre Array Pathfinder (ASKAP), is currently being built in Western Australia and will form part of the ATNF once completed.
The telescopes can be used as stand-alone instruments or used together as a long baseline array to enable high resolution imaging.
The facility offers a powerful view of the southern hemisphere radio spectrum and supports world-leading research by Australian and
international astronomers.
