You might have a look at either a
hypertext or a
postscript version of the MIDAS User Guides. A hardcopy of the MIDAS
manual can be borrowed from my office (room 89).
- Volume A 95NOV (Hypertext
or Postscript):
Describes the basic MIDAS system with all general purpose
facilities such as MIDAS Control Language, all available commands,
data input/output (including plotting and image display), table
system (MIDAS Data Base). Site specific features are given in
an appendix.
- Volume B 95NOV (Hypertext
or Postscript):
Describes how to use the MIDAS system for astronomical data
reduction. Application packages for special types of data or
reductions (e.g. long slit and echelle spectra, object search, or
crowded field photometry) are discussed assuming intensity
calibrated data. A set of appendices gives a detailed description
of the reduction of raw data from ESO instruments.
- Volume C 95NOV (Postscript):
Gives the on-line detailed description for all commands available.
This volume is not available via hypertext as it
can be accessed via the Midas GUI XHelp (from the shell with
helpmidas or from Midas with create/gui help).
In addition, the online help in MIDAS is quite good. You can reach this typing
help/... in MIDAS, where "..." means any
command you would like to have information on. You should also
try the tutorial lessons which demonstrate some of the more important
MIDAS procedures.
I also have a paper version of the EXSAS User's Guide
and EXSAS Command
Summary. Here you find all commands you need to know for the analysis of
ROSAT X-ray observations. A
postscript version and a
hypertext version of the EXSAS User's guide exist as well.
