MIDAS will create a directory called midwork in your home-directory. There, it is possible to create a private login file (called login.prg) that is used whenever MIDAS starts - for example to create displays automatically. This is my login.prg.
The unix command helpmidas opens a graphic user interface to the help pages.
I installed ESO-MIDAS on TUCANA so that you can use its DAT and EXABYTE drives. MIDAS routines call them "tapedat" and "tapeexa", repectively.
To use the EXSAS context (for the analysis of ROSAT data), you will have to set some environment variables. This is automatically done when you include the command source /DATA/TUCANA_1/midas/exsas/96JAN_EXP/EXSAS.csh in your .login file.
ASCII files like tables and help-text can only be send to the printer EPP001 in room 23. However, hardcopies of the graphic and image displays will go to the printer defined via chooser.
