Subject: [fitsbits] Bintable proposals are approved
The IAU FITS Working Group has completed its review of the 2 proposals
related to FITS binary tables, and I am pleased to say that both of them
have been approved nearly unanimously:
Proposal 1, to incorporate the Variable Length Array convention into the
FITS Standard:
Yes - 21 votes
No - 0 votes
Abstain - 1 vote
Proposal 2, to incorporate the TDIMn multidimensional array convention into
the FITS Standard:
Yes - 21 votes
No - 0 votes
Abstain - 1 vote
Therefore, as of today, 7 April 2005, these 2 proposals should be considered
part of the official FITS Standard. The full text of these proposals is
currently still available at
http://fits.gsfc.nasa.gov/bintable_proposals.html. Now that the proposals
have been approved, this information will be moved to a more appropriate
location on the FITS Support Office web site in the near future.
