Greetings to Miriad devotees,
Miriad is currently being adapted to comply with the FITS WCS
standard. This will happen in stages, mostly invisible.
In the first instance you may notice that regrid now supports
a larger range of map projections, both as input and output,
though not all as yet. Likewise, tasks like cgcurs should now
be able to handle a wider range of coordinate systems. More
than 90 tasks are affected.
Please read regrid's revised help carefully. Another important
change is that celestial axis descriptors are now specified in
degrees rather than radians.
Epping has already been updated, the observatories will follow
sometime after 10pm tonight.
Miriad now uses WCSLIB for coordinate computations. The WCSLIB
object library is managed in the same way as RPFITS - it should
be retrieved by mirsync and is included in the binary distros,
effective immediately. Installation of Miriad from source code,
e.g. on platforms that we do not provide binaries for, will now
also need WCSLIB installed from source. It is available from
http://www.atnf.csiro.au/computing/software/
