Dear colleague,

The SoFiA team is pleased to announce the release of SoFiA 1.1, the latest stable version of the Source Finding Application, now available at https://github.com/SoFiA-Admin/SoFiA/releases/tag/v1.1.0 <https://github.com/SoFiA-Admin/SoFiA/releases/tag/v1.1.0> .

This is the ninth stable release of SoFiA. It introduces a few new features and comes with a large number of improvements and bug fixes.

The most notable new features include better handling of reliability calculation, the option to discard negative signals, and a new image viewer built into the GUI that allows output data products from SoFiA to be inspected in situ.

In addition, a large number of bugs has been fixed, including the handling of cubelets, moment maps and 4-D FITS cubes, and the removal of two errors in the linker module. Other changes include the ability to compile SoFiA with Clang, dropping the GSL dependency while adding a dependency on zlib, and the requirement of Python 2.7 to run SoFiA.

New features

New user option to scale the automatically determined kernel for reliability measurement (ef12e36 <https://github.com/SoFiA-Admin/SoFiA/commit/ef12e36f95a9b9c4a7cb9e6f674539122895d42c>).
The GUI can now display compressed catalogue files; this requires zlib to be available during compilation (d3fd339 <https://github.com/SoFiA-Admin/SoFiA/commit/d3fd339c4316774838f396c71dbf216bacf2be70>).
A built-in image viewer will allow output data products to be displayed in the GUI (003fc46 <https://github.com/SoFiA-Admin/SoFiA/commit/003fc46d586b466c6ed22820f5c9164d64b30deb>).
A new positivity option allows only positive signals to be merged into sources (820c993 <https://github.com/SoFiA-Admin/SoFiA/commit/820c993d1922ba9a7a884943847921e98d5ed5ae>).
SoFiA can now compute statistical uncertainties of several source parameters (3b463e8 <https://github.com/SoFiA-Admin/SoFiA/commit/3b463e8b53e4b8a56cef6f7eb78017f4421b0ce3>, af3783b <https://github.com/SoFiA-Admin/SoFiA/commit/af3783b1fada66dbe0d04d7bcdea80a8af8eb008>).
Bug-fixes

Treatment of 4-D cubes (949e173 <https://github.com/SoFiA-Admin/SoFiA/commit/949e173a2675173525f31314021703eb5b65112e>, 33a04da <https://github.com/SoFiA-Admin/SoFiA/commit/33a04da0f95fa2c3ed4f329e824b8d7c8d5df1c0>).
Regridding of cubelets (1d1cb11 <https://github.com/SoFiA-Admin/SoFiA/commit/1d1cb11d7f7fa13492099dabb1a35660af6f0b73>).
Several bug fixes in the reliability module (a920ad3 <https://github.com/SoFiA-Admin/SoFiA/commit/a920ad3fcab79a1ca60615ecbd05953d5acff83f>, 12604c0 <https://github.com/SoFiA-Admin/SoFiA/commit/12604c09c0090bae2cb95c8834ee4c00d2536862>, 34a6ac5 <https://github.com/SoFiA-Admin/SoFiA/commit/34a6ac50f8fdaa182dec8f160ad409680ec7a311>, 1ccd43e <https://github.com/SoFiA-Admin/SoFiA/commit/1ccd43ee22b0565099242f320931a99dfa6e20a3>).
Several bug fixes in the moment generation module (73f7e25 <https://github.com/SoFiA-Admin/SoFiA/commit/73f7e25e4896ff82bab946ef02271c74342537f9>, b4324c6 <https://github.com/SoFiA-Admin/SoFiA/commit/b4324c66dc1bee0a0469fed451a103046c7510c1>, 542196e <https://github.com/SoFiA-Admin/SoFiA/commit/542196eaf49a2c7cef784bf28e40026e777876a6>).
Fixed two separate bugs in the linker module (b878312 <https://github.com/SoFiA-Admin/SoFiA/commit/b878312b16d66c93bcb487b5fa51f4d6c965d7f1>).
Other changes

Updated nanmedian use to comply with changes in SciPy (64f565e <https://github.com/SoFiA-Admin/SoFiA/commit/64f565e271ad2f75623aac9e1688f30ac1b9bd27>).
A different algorithm for fitting the Busy Function has been implemented; this removes the GSL requirement during compilation (52ba263 <https://github.com/SoFiA-Admin/SoFiA/commit/52ba26308d1816974a8c4450be98856f6b940f4c>, bb515b8 <https://github.com/SoFiA-Admin/SoFiA/commit/bb515b84c1cb288e9bbcd4b8d99d0a4c27c7d7a2>). Note that there is currently no centroid measurement from the Busy Function fit and the parameter bf_z is set to 0 by default.
Python 2.7 is now required by SoFiA.
The progress bar in the GUI was replaced by an activity indicator (fb4f182 <https://github.com/SoFiA-Admin/SoFiA/commit/fb4f182981c6f64ecc87e36aebdef357627fc866>).
SoFiA can now be compiled with newer versions of the Clang compiler.
General clean-up of much of the code.

On behalf of the SoFiA team,
Paolo Serra
