Subject: FPGA Workshop Announcement - Feb 2006

Dear all,

Modern FPGA-based systems are emerging as prime candidates to provide
backbone DSP functionality for future high-capacity radio astronomy
instruments. Many research groups are beginning to experiment with FPGA
devices. The latest generation of configurable logic devices
is bridging the gap between traditional electronic hardware and software
engineering and new strategies are emerging to take full advantage of
their capabilities.

The University of Tasmania radio astronomy group is planning to host a
4-day conference/workshop dedicated to examining the use of FPGA
technology for high speed digital signal processing (with radio
astronomy applications in mind). Sessions will include invited talks
describing state-of-the-art systems and plans for future developments,
along with practical demonstrations and discussion sessions where FPGA
core design principles and strategies can be shared amongst the
participants.

We hope to encourage discussion between the various groups working on
this technology. Scientists, engineers and students are all invited to
attend.

At the moment we seek only an expression of interest from prospective
attendees. We are planning to hold the event between the 5th and 8th of
February 2007. If these dates are impossible for anyone, please reply
with an alternative suggestion. Once an optimal date has been chosen, we
will make further arrangements and send out a second announcement and a
call for registration.

Please forward this message to anyone you think might be interested in
attending the meeting.

Best regards,
Aidan.
