Hi,
I don't know if anyone has paid much attention to vt10b1, which is
running tonight for an hour immediately after v215a. Its a test
experiment to demonstrate the feasibility of observing a narrowband
source (methanol maser) with a wideband setup and extracting at the
correlator - wideband data on the phase reference source and
narrowband data for the maser source.

The observations use the same centre frequency as v215a, but with a
16 MHz bandwidth, rather than 4 MHz, so the change over should be
quick. vt10b1 only involves Hobart, Ceduna, Mopra and ATCA as the
sources are too low at Parkes (there is a very limited choice of
maser sources around at the LST that this test happens to fall). The
schedule has a 10 minute fringe finder scan on 0537 at the beginning
and end and the central 40 minutes involves phase referencing
observations of a couple of maser sources Mon R2 (a few hundred Jy)
and NGC2024 (1.5 Jy). The phase calibrators are within a few degrees
and are ICRF sources with flux densities of a few Jy on 1000 km
baselines.

There is no disk allocation for this experiment, but is is only 1
hour at 128 Mb/s, so it will use less than 0.1 TB. Please put it on
an xraid if you are sure there is sufficient space, otherwise it can
be recorded to the internal disks and we can transfer it at a later
date.

Regards

Simon
