Curtin Research Fellowships - applications open for 2012 Fellows

The Curtin Research Fellowship scheme aims to attract high quality post
doctoral researchers with excellent potential for providing future academic
and research leadership at the University. Curtin University (
http://www.curtin.edu.au) is the largest university in the state of Western
Australia and has recently developed a large and growing astronomy and
astrophysics team. This team is primarily aimed at opportunities motivated
by large investments in radio astronomy in Western Australia, to support
projects such as the the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) project and the
Australian SKA Pathfinder (ASKAP).

Applications are now open for Fellows to commence in 2012. Applications can
be submitted for two categories of Fellowship:

- Early Career Researcher Fellowship, for applicants with less than 5 years
post-doctoral experience;

- Senior Research Fellowship, for applicants with more than 5 years
post-doctoral experience.

Applicants interested in a Fellowship within the Curtin Institute of Radio
Astronomy (CIRA) are encouraged to apply. CIRA is one half of the
International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research (ICRAR) Joint Venture,
with The University of Western Australia, and a node of CAASTRO, the ARC
Centre for All-sky Astrophysics. CIRA also derives funding from a number of
large federal and state grants, including approximately $12m to construct
the Murchison Widefield Array (MWA), a low frequency SKA Precursor.
Currently CIRA hosts 29 research staff, 5 support staff, 10 postgraduate
students, and a number of distinguished Adjuncts. CIRA works at the
intersection of astrophysics and engineering and staff are active in the
following areas:

* Theoretical astrophysics;
* Multi-wavelength studies of AGN;
* Pulsars;
* Low frequency radio astronomy (with the Murchison Widefield Array);
* Low frequency radio astronomy engineering (SKA Aperture Array Verification
Program);
* Multi-wavelength studies of galactic X-ray binaries;
* Fast and slow radio transient science;
* Fast radio transient instrumentation and engineering;
* Epoch of Reionisation studies;
* VLBI and e-VLBI science and instrumentation;
* ASKAP science;
* SKA science and engineering;
* Optical astronomy;

In the past four years, four Curtin Research Fellowships have been awarded
to CIRA.

Further information on the Fellowships and the application process can be
found at: http://research.curtin.edu.au/research-funding/fellowships.cfm

Applicants must contact Prof. Steven Tingay (S.Tingay_at_curtin.<!--nospam-->edu.au) before
lodging an application, to discuss alignment of the proposed application
with existing areas of CIRA research. Applications must be made online at
the URL listed above and applications close on Monday September 5, at 5 pm
in Perth (GMT + 8).
