Position Summary: The Expanded Very Large Array (EVLA) is now delivering Early Science, and the Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA) is upgrading its 6-cm receivers and increasing its bandwidth by a factor of four. When completed in 2012, the capabilities provided by these two facilities will offer greatly expanded science capabilities. NRAO invites applications for three (3) postdoctoral positions to participate in the scientific commissioning and technical development of the EVLA and VLBA.

These positions (50% research, 50% support) provide the opportunity for hands-on training in areas of technical expertise and observatory operations. The positions will be located at the Domenici Science Operations Center in Socorro, New Mexico. The initial appointments are for two years, with the possibility of renewal for a third year subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability. Conference and observing travel will be supported, and page charge support, vacation accrual, health insurance, and a moving allowance are also provided. The appointments are available as early as November 1, 2011, although later start dates are possible by agreement.

Candidates should have, or expect to have by the agreed start date, a PhD in astronomy, physics, or a related field, and should have a plan of continuing independent research.
Job Duties Summary: The NRAO Postdocs will be expected to assist in one the following areas: development and testing of new algorithms and high performance computing capabilities needed for the successful imaging, calibration, and analysis of data from the EVLA, VLBA, and other future arrays; development and testing of an EVLA data reduction and analysis pipeline; and development and testing of new observing capabilities for the VLBA.
