ATUC CABB Science Day

ATNF Lecture Theatre
13 May 2009

The Compact Array Broadband Backend (CABB) upgrade will provide a new broadband backend system for the ATCA. The maximum bandwidth of the ATCA will be increased from the current 128-MHz to 2-GHz, a factor of 16 improvement. This will improve the continuum sensitivity of the ATCA by at least a factor of four as well as providing a greatly enhanced spectral line performance, particularly at the higher observing frequencies. The wider bandwidth will allow projects studying spectral lines within a 2-GHz band to be carried out simultaneously.

This one-day Science Meeting is part of the ATNF Users Committee meeting occurring on the 14th and 15th May. The meeting will exhibit the capabilities of and early results from the new ATCA system - CABB. The ATNF has always benefited greatly from the healthy and vigourous interactions between engineers and astronomers, and in fact all ATNF staff. This is an occasion to reinforce those interactions and to celebrate the products of ATNF expertise.
