Fireworks in the Night: Art, Science and Perception -- Michaela Gleave Colloquium

The Australia Telescope National Facility Colloquium
15:00-16:00 Wed 30 Jan 2013

Abstract

In this presentation CASS artist-in-residence Michaela Gleave will discuss the background of her artistic practice, and the path that has lead her to the field of astronomy, via the somewhat unusual materials of snow, fireworks, glitter, bubbles and rain. Working across a range of media including sculpture, installation, performance, photography and video, Michaela’s artistic practice focuses on the physicality of perception and the ways in which we understand and engage with the world around us. Executed as a series of experiments, her often-temporal works question our relationship to space, matter and time, involving natural phenomena and tricks of perception within the context of the systems and structures that shape our understanding of the universe.
