Star Formation in Orion -- John Bally Colloquium

The Australia Telescope National Facility Colloquium
15:00-16:00 Wed 17 Apr 2013

Abstract

I will review star and planet formation in the nearby Orion complex and the extent to which it is representative of the type of environment in which most stars and planetary systems form. I will highlight near-IR adaptive optics imaging of the explosive OMC1 outflow and what it teaches us about the
physics of massive star formation. This outflow may have been triggered by the dynamic ejection of massive stars from the OMC1 core about 500 years ago.
