ATNF Summer Vacation Outreach Scholarship

A CSIRO summer vacation scholarship is available at the Australia Telescope National Facility (ATNF) for a graduate or undergraduate student, resident in Australia, who has completed undergraduate courses of three years or more in a science discipline with studies in education and or science communication.

Closing date for applications: Friday 15 October 2004.

The Australia Telescope National Facility (ATNF) is the premier radio astronomical facility in Australia and operates world-class radio astronomy observatories at Parkes and Narrabri, with headquarters in Sydney. The outreach project offered for the 2004/2005 summer vacation program involves developing and writing educational material for school groups visiting the telescopes. Placement will be at the observatory at Parkes but will also require visits to Sydney and Narrabri.

The scholarship will be available for 8 to 12 working weeks in the period November 2004 to February 2005. The stipend is $480 a week. The student will undertake a project under the supervision of the Visitors Centre Coordinator at Parkes and the Education Officer at Marsfield. The scholarship is suitable for a student who has completed at least three years of an undergraduate degree in science or science education and is considering further studies in either education or science communication.
