Employment Opportunity: Postdoctoral Scientist - Astronomical Data Analysis

CSIROÂ’s Australia Telescope National Facility (ATNF) seeks to fill a Postdoctoral position in a team developing software applications for radio astronomy.

This position is to develop software that can automatically, efficiently and robustly search multi-dimensional images, detecting, characterizing and cataloging the objects found.

Target data sets include current large surveys obtained with the Parkes radio telescope and the AT Compact Array. Survey data sets that will be taken with the next generation of sensitive, wide-field radio telescopes will also be targets for this software.

The software will also be integrated into the Virtual Observatory (VO) environment in the presentation of image archives hosted by the ATNF. The ATNF is a member of the Australian Virtual Observatory (Aus-VO;www.aus-vo.org) which in turn is a member of the International Virtual Observatory Alliance (IVOA; www.ivoa.net).

The successful applicant will have the ability to work independently with complex applied mathematical formalisms, to develop new algorithms, and to translate those algorithms into high-quality production software.
