Abstract

The Widefield camera (WFCAM) on UKIRT in Hawaii, and VISTA at Cerro Paranal represent two different approaches for achieving uprecedented IR fields on 4-m class telescopes. I'll present a summary of the science goals for the projects, and discuss the technical design solutions as well as recent developments.
