Large-Scale Structure of the Local HI Universe - Martin Meyer Colloquium

The Australia Telescope National Facility Colloquium
15:30-16:30 Wed 28 May 2003

ATNF Marsfield Lecture Theatre

Abstract

The completion of the full HIPASS catalogue has opened up exciting new
opportunities for studying the HI properties of galaxies and the
distribution of cool baryons in the local universe. Compiled using a
combination of automatic and manual processes, the catalogue contains
~4300 sources making it the largest sample of HI selected galaxies to
date. Presented are the results of the full catalogue, including movies
depicting the local HI large-scale structure, as well as recent science
highlights. In particular, the clustering properties of the sample are
examined through the two-point correlation function, and results compared
to those of recent optical surveys.
