Radioastronomy in Software - Matthew Bailes Colloquium

The Australia Telescope National Facility Colloquium
15:30-16:30 Wed 15 Oct 2008

ATNF Marsfield Lecture Theatre

Abstract

I will discuss how supercomputing clusters can be used
to achieve:

* Real time processing of ~GHz of data for pulsar timing

* Software correlation of multi-element interferometers

* Beamforming on a massive scale

* High-resolution spectroscopy

I will also look to the future of computer clusters and interconnects
and forecast how Petaflop supercomputers might be used in instruments
like ASKAP, MeerKAT, MWA/PAPER and the SKA to achieve
some remarkable feats.
