Forty Years of Fabulous Fringes: VLBI in the Land of Oz - Dave Jauncey Colloquium

Abstract

With the (almost) complete demise of tape recording, the arrival of Gbps disk-based recording and new soft-ware correlators, now is an appropriate time to review the story of Oz VLBI since its beginnings forty-plus years ago. My talk concentrates on three themes: the people, the science, and the opportunities. As in any field, these have been the main determinants of progress. In particular, Tidbinbilla has been a central component of the story.
