OCE Postdoctoral Fellowship: First Science with ASKAP

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Fellowship to carry out “First Science with the Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder (ASKAP)”.

The Fellow will, in the first 12 to 18 months:

* Carry out the first science observations with the early ASKAP array
* Analyse the resulting extremely large (300 Tbytes/day!) data sets using the compute capability of the Pawsey Centre in Perth
* Publish the first science results in a major journal
* Publicise the first results in the media and via international conferences
* Carry out self-driven research on existing telescopes on ASKAP related science.

Following this period, the Fellow will carry out test observations and perform initial science in the highest priority science areas as the telescope construction proceeds towards full ASKAP capabilities.

In the final 18 months of the Fellowship the postdoc will lead the first phase of new science results pouring out of the fully capable ASKAP.
