Figures 1 and 2: Neutral hydrogen distribution (top) and mean velocity field (bottom) of the galaxy NGC 3882 (v = 1817 km/s) and a new companion galaxy, ATCA J1147-56 (v = 1760 km/s). The HI position of ATCA J1147-56 is 11:47:00, -56:10:54.
375-m ATCA data (10 h on-source) from 19-4-1996 * B. Koribalski (C419).
The total HI flux densities are about 32.4 Jy km/s for NGC3882 and 0.6 Jy km/s for ATCA J1147-56; beam size: 107 arcsec x 88 arcsec.

Figures 3 and 4: Optical images of NGC 3882 (left) and a companion, ATCA J1147-56 (right; ... not much to see there), from the second generation Digitized Sky Survey.

Figure 5: ATCA HI global spectrum of NGC3882. Also detected in HIPASS. The HI flux density is 32.4 Jy km/s corresponding to an HI mass of about 4.4 x 10^9 Msun assuming a distance of 24 Mpc.

Figure 6: ATCA HI global spectrum of the new galaxy, ATCA J1147-56. The HI flux density is 0.6 Jy km/s corresponding to an HI mass of about 8.2 x 10^7 Msun assuming a distance of 24 Mpc.
