Second Announcement of a Workshop on Scientific Opportunities with the Compact Array at 25-50 GHz ============================================================ Tuesday, 31 May 2005, 13.30, ATNF Lecture Theatre Teleconference Extension: 4613 Plans are underway to outfit the Australia Telescope Compact Array with receivers in the frequency range between 25 GHz and 50 GHz. In support of the scientific justification for this project, the AT Users Committee suggested that a half-day workshop be held to find out where, from a user's perspective, the primary interests in this frequency range are. The scientific justification will influence the design of the hardware, and will position this project among its peers at ATNF. Preliminary program: Session 1: Galactic Astronomy Chair: Enno Middelberg 13:30 Enno Middelberg - Welcome and introduction 13:35 Warwick Wilson - Technical details 13:50 Michael Burton - The birth of HII regions 14:05 Cormac Purcell - Interesting molecular lines in the 7mm band 14:20 Peter Barnes - Spectroscopy of star formation 14:35 Kate Brooks - Probing the early phases of massive star formation with 7-mm continuum emission 14:50 Jessica Chapman - SiO masers from AGB stars 15:05 Lister Staveley-Smith - SN1987A 15:20 Maxim Voronkov - Methanol masers 15:35 Coffee break Session 2: Extragalactic Astronomy Chair: Steven Tingay 16:00 Jim Lovell - 7 mm observations using Tidbinbilla 16:15 Steven Tingay - VLBI @ 7 mm 16:30 Roopesh Ojha - Extending the ICRF to 24/43 GHz 16:35 Carole Jackson - Extragalactic radio sources and the CMB 16:50 Carlos De Breuck - An introduction to redshifted CO 17:05 Ilana Klamer - Redshifted CO with 7 mm 17:20 Ron Ekers - The high-redshift universe 17:35 Discussion All speakers should email their contributions to at_meetings@atnf.csiro.au before 31 May. This will allow people at the remote sites to access your talk. The draft science case document is available as PDF document at http://www.atnf.csiro.au/people/Enno.Middelberg/7mm/science.pdf If you feel that you can contribute to one of these points, or think that an issue important to you or your field is missing, please contribute to the workshop with a short talk. Estimates of expected sensitivity and resolution are summarized in this PDF document, including a comparison to the neighbouring 12 mm and 3 mm bands: http://www.atnf.csiro.au/people/Enno.Middelberg/7mm/data.pdf If you need more information about the system to prepare your contribution (sensitivity estimates, frequency range), please contact me at enno.middelberg@csiro.au. We are looking forward to hearing from you! Enno Middelberg, Project Scientist Steven Tingay, AT Users Committee
