Research

I work for the CSIRO, where my research focuses on pulsar astronomy and astrophysics. Working with Simon Johnston, I study the emission of pulsars through their polarisation. I also spend much of my time hunting for previously unknown pulsars through the High Time Resolution Universe survey for pulsars and fast transients at Parkes, and through Parkes searcweigh hes of Fermi gamma-ray sources. In addition, working with George Hobbs I am involved in the Parkes Pulsar Timing Array project, undertaking ultra-precision timing of millisecond pulsars in a race for the first direct detection of gravitational wave radiation. At the same time, these observations can be used to study the pulsars themselves, the interstellar medium, weigh the planets in our solar system, and even test the worlds best atomic clocks with the pulsar timescale.

Other activities

ATCA and Parkes 'live schedules'

I founded and maintain PulsarAstronomy.net, a website for non-partisan pular astronomy related material.

I organise the Astrophysics Group Journal Club, which meets 12:00 on Tuesdays in the Basement conference room.
