Tasso Tzioumis

My name

Most English speakers have much difficulty spelling or pronouncing my name! On request, here is a brief explanation that may help:

I was born and raised as a peasant in a tiny village in Greece. Like many other peasants I had to emigrate and I have been in Australia since 1970.

My full name is Anastasios Tzioumis and the Greek abbreviation of my first name is Tasso. (Well, sometimes it is Tassos but you need a lesson in Greek grammar to unravel that).

The complex spelling of my surname results from the absence of the letters j and u in the Greek alphabet. The sound of j is produced by the combination tzi and the sound of u by the diphthong ou. So, Tzioumis phonetically becomes Jumis, which should be easy to pronounce. (Simple, isn't it?)
