CASS receives Bronze Pleiades Award |
by the CASS Diversity Committee |
CSIRO Astronomy and Space Science (CASS) has
received a bronze award in the first year of a new national scheme to improve
gender equity in Australia's astronomy departments and research institutes.
Inspired by the United Kingdom's Athena SWAN scheme, the Pleiades Awards
have been created by the Astronomical Society of Australia (ASA) to recognise
organisations that take active steps to advance the careers of women.
"We have established the structures and clearly demonstrated the intent
to deliver improvements in diversity. While there is room for substantial
improvement, we are very proud of this external recognition of our efforts
to build a better working environment", says Jill Rathborne, CASS's
Diversity Committee Chair. More information on the initiative is available
from the ASA Women in Astronomy Chapter. The image shows an optical color-composite image of the Pleiades and the Bronze logo for the Pleiades Award. |
