Today we remember our colleague Daniel
Harris from the Smithsonian
Astrophysical Observatory who passed away on December 6. Dan was
a student of John Bolton and Caltech's first PhD in radio astronomy.
Dan was a passionate astronomer and an adventurous world traveler.
He was part of the crew of the boat that sailed from England to
Australia with Venkatraman Radhakrishnan and Dave Morris.
Dan left this vessel in Puerto Rico where he took a position
in Arecibo. Dan was a world leader on the study of extragalactic
AGN jets in the X-ray, particularly using the Chandra telescope.
Dan was the life of the party, he was a joyful, open and friendly
person who lead a rich and productive life. We will miss him as he was
a friend and collaborator of many of us here at CSIRO.
