by Helen Sim (CASS) |
On Wednesday evening CSIRO Astronomy and Space
Science's Lisa Harvey-Smith was awarded this year's Department of Industry,
Innovation and Science Eureka Prize for the Promoting Understanding of
Australian Science Research (see her video
here). The
Eureka Prizes are the science Oscars of Australia and highlight the work of
an amazing group of finalists, from large multinational teams to 11-year-olds
who shoot solo science films. Lisa does outreach to audiences ranging from
professional physicists to Aboriginal children in remote regional schools.
"When I get to inspire young people ... that's incredibly rewarding," she
says. More information: Australian Museum Eureka Prizes 2016 winners and finalists. And a great article in the conversation: The 2016 Eureka Prizes showcase the best in Australian science by Tim Dean. Photo credit: Wheller Studios. |
