The third ACAMAR meeting |
The third ACAMAR meeting -- Australia-China Workshop on Astrophysics
-- was held in Hobart this week. Following Elaine Sadler's opening
remarks (yesterday's ADAP), today's picture shows Ji Yang also
welcoming participants to the meeting. The focus of this workshop was
Antarctic astronomy, low-frequency radio astronomy, ASKAP/FAST/SKA,
and optical instrumentation. ACAMAR is a joint China-Australia
research centre between the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the
Australian Department of Industry, Innovation and Science, and the ARC
Centre of Excellence for All-sky Astrophysics (CAASTRO) to collaborate
on areas of common interest within astronomy, astrophysics and
cosmology.
ACAMAR is an acronym (by the looser definition of the word) for the Australia-ChinA consortiuM for Astrophysical Research, but is also the name for theta Eridani, a bright naked-eye star visible from both Australia and China. |
