An international conference on The Broad Impact of Low Frequency Observing
was held last week in Bologna, Italy. Over 200 participants gathered to
discuss results from the European LOFAR, Australian MWA, and Indian
GMRT telescopes, among others. The conference "began at the beginning,"
with the first session being on the Epoch of Reionisation --
the period in the early universe during which the predominantly neutral intergalactic
medium was ionized by the first stars and galaxies. The picture above shows Cath Trott
