Observing Pulsars with a Phased Array Feed at the Parkes Telescope
by Simon Johnston (CASS)
A phased-array feed (PAF) system, very similar to the design for ASKAP was installed on the Parkes 64-m telescope for six months during 2016. Deng et al. 2017 (PASA, in press) report on observations of pulsars made with the PAF. The figure shows how 3 pulsars were observed simultaneously and the timing residuals from the observations thus demonstrating the capabilities of PAFs for pulsar science. The PAF itself is now in Germany where it has been installed on the Effelsberg telescope (see ADAP 19-May-2017).
