Vale Bruce MacA Thomas
We were saddened to learn of the passing of Bruce MacA Thomas last month. He joined the CSIRO Division of Radiophysics in Sydney in 1964, and was co-author on several papers related to the Parkes 2.7 GHz survey in the late 1960s. Two of his later papers were "The Use of a Surface Polarizer on the Parkes Telescope to Reduce Spectral Baseline Ripple" (in Proceedings of the Astronomical Society of Australia, vol. 4, p. 33, 1980) and "Parkes radio telescope modified for rapid receiver changes" (in IEEE Antennas & Propagation Magazine, vol. 39, p. 54, 1997). From 1996 until his retirement in 2002, he took a leading role in the search for a radio-quiet site for the Square Kilometre Array. More details of Bruce's work at CSIRO are given in this CSIROpedia article.
