The Guinness World Record for Stargazing?
As part of Stargazing Live this week, an attempt was made to break the Guinness World Record for stargazing. The world record for the most people stargazing across multiple venues was set in 2015 by the Australian National University, with 7,960 people across 37 locations, but the star parties organised in conjunction with Stargazing Live looked set to break this record. In order to set a new world record, participants needed to be looking through a telescope or a pair of binoculars for 10 minutes. The image above shows "Dr Karl" (Kruszelnicki) during a live cross to the Brisbane star party during the world record attempt, while participants had their telescopes trained on the moon!
