The Correlator Log Files.
Introduction
Correlator data is logged in two ways. The first is
timer.log and the second is timertapes.log. Finally,
some observers write down things in the log book.
timer.log
This file is in $OBSDIR on pavo and backed up to kepler
at the end of every session.
You can think of this as attempted observations.
Every time you try to observe something, it is entered in
timer.log. This is no guarantee that the data was even taken,
it is just what timer tried to observe.
timertapes.log
This file also resides in $OBSDIR on pavo and should also
be backed up regularly to kepler. It is what is stored on the
tapes. You can just more it, grep it or whatever. The
csh script tape2disk
uses it to work out which pulsars to
unload for you.
