Reducing a Pulsar and Cal Observation.
Introduction.
To get a fully-calibrated pulsar observation you need a recent Hydra
cal, a calibration file which was obtained on a patch of sky with similar
temperature to the pulsar, and of course the pulsar observation.
Once you have reduced the Hydra Cals you should then reduce the
calibration observation and then the pulsar.
Recipe.
- Establish the name of the cal file and pulsar observation.
- Get them off tape.
- Reduce the cal file - to do this type:
rfd2ar calfilename
- Reduce the pulsar observation when the cal is finished. To do this type:
rfd2ar pulsarobsname
- You are now done! The pulsar observation will be in $fptmpool and the
cal file is $calpool if you ever want to use them again.
- The pulsar observation is now in standard archive format. You can
now plot it or whatever by using the standard archive manipulation tools.
