ASKAP Live

Take a 'bird's eye view' over the Murchison Radio-astronomy Observatory and see the construction progress of CSIRO's ASKAP radio telescope with ASKAP Live.

ASKAP Live is an interactive map of the 36 antennas that will make up ASKAP. In addition to showing the location of each antenna, ASKAP Live gives you pictures and status reports on the construction of each antenna.

Simply click the antenna locations (marked with antenna icons) on the map to the right for the latest pictures and information on the construction of ASKAP:

  • Antennas indicated by green icons have already been completed
  • Antennas indicated by blue icons are currently being constructed, and
  • The six antennas that will make up the Boolardy Engineering Test Array, or BETA, are marked with yellow or purple icons.
  • In areas with a lot of antennas, you may see a circle with a number indicating how many antennas are in that area; click the circle to zoom in on those antennas.
Please note that the status shown here may not be updated every day. General pictures are shown where a photo of a particular antenna is unavailable.

In June 2011, the first six ASKAP antennas were officially given names in the local Wajarri Yamatji language: Bilyarli, Bundarra, Wilara, Jirdilungu, Balayi, and Diggidumble. Naming of ASKAP's remaining 30 antennas will take place as more are installed on site. Roads and other significant structures at the Murchison Radio-astronomy Observatory will also be given Wajarri Yamatji names. Read more.
