Chapter 7: Processing multiple pulsars simultaneously

7.1 Introduction

Tempo2 has been designed to process multiple pulsar data-sets simultaneously. Full global fitting algorithms do exist, but are currently being tested and improved. Here, we only discuss processing multiple pulsars where each pulsar is fitted individually. This is carried out using

 tempo2 -f psr1.par psr1.tim -f psr2.par psr2.tim -f psr3.par psr3.tim ...

Tempo2 will provide individual output for the fits to each pulsar. Some of the graphical interfaces can process the timing residuals of multiple pulsars. These include "splk" which plots each timing residual, "plotMany" which makes publication quality plots of multiple timing residuals and further plugins are being developed to search for correlations between the timing residuals.
