The HI column density image of the SMC is a result of the combination of new Parkes telescope HI observations with an ATCA aperture synthesis mosaic of 320 pointing centres. The total area covered is 4.5x4.5 degrees, and the image is centred on RA 00:55:00, Dec -72:50:00. The image has the SIN projection, and units of atoms/cm^2. Since the SMC is very extended, column densities are still significant at the image edges. For more information on data reduction and image processing, see Stanimirovic et al. 1999.
