ATNF Summer Vacation Program

General Information

These notes are to give general information for CSIRO ATNF summer vacation students and their supervisors.

Program dates

The summer vacation program for 2009/2010 has a 10-week core period from 30 November 2009 until Friday 12 February 2010 (does not include the one-week site shutdown for Christmas/New Year). All students are asked to be present for the start of the program at 09:00 on 30 November at Marsfield. The CSIRO site is located on the corner of Vimiera Rd and Pembroke Rd in Marsfield, Sydney.

Arrival on first day

When you arrive on the first day, please make your way to the main entrance. Staff will be available in the reception area to meet you and guide you to the Lecture Theatre for the initial session.

Events Program

The summer vacation program includes a series of introductory talks and tours on the first two days, and other organised events. The full program is given in the Summer vacation program of events.

Research Projects

Each student will undertake a research project under the supervision of an ATNF staff member. Details of projects are available on the Projects page.

Pay

The pay is $550 per week and is subject to tax.

Christmas Holiday Dates

The Marsfield site will be in a 'shut-down' mode from 25 December through 1 January. Students will be paid for December 25, 26 and 29 and Jan 01 as these are public holidays but not for 28 & 30 December. These days will be taken as unpaid leave. Variations ot this are at the discretion of your supervisors.

Observing trip to Narrabri

As part of the summer vacation program students attend an astronomy observing trip to the Narrabri Observatory. This will be held on 15 - 19 January 2010. Information on this will be given during the first few days of the program. Costs for this are met by ATNF.

Student Symposium

Each student will present a talk on their project at the Student Symposium on February 11, 2010, in the Marsfield Lecture Theatre.
