Background Reading

Prior to your arrival at CASS for your Summer Vacation Scholarship you are encouraged to familiarise yourself with some of the basics of radio astronomy. The following references are useful.

Websites

  • Basics of Radio Astronomy is a introductory text that you can download as PDFs by chapter from the website. It was written by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory to support the Goldstone-Apple Valley Radio Telescope educational initiative.
  • MIT's Haystack Observatory has an online Radio Astronomy Tutorial, developed as part of their Undergraduate Research Educational Initiative. It has some sections that can be downloaded as PDFs.
