Australian ALMA community workshop

February 6-7, 2012

ALMA has grown to 25 telescopes including three 7m telescopes in the Atacama Compact Array (far right). In preparation for the upcoming ALMA call for Cycle 1 proposals we are planning a 2-day ALMA workshop for the Australian community. The purpose of this workshop is to discuss:

  • ALMA's Cycle 1 Capabilities
  • Support for successful Australian-led proposals
  • Science projects that take advantage of ALMA's unique capabilities

Day one of the workshop will focus on talks from ALMA experts on the current status, expected Cycle 1 capabilities, early science results, and user support centres. Day two will focus on ALMA science projects in the form of both invited and contributed talks. We would like these talks to focus on both early science with ALMA and future science projects that make use of ALMA's unique capabilities. If you are a member of a team that was awarded ALMA early science time, we encourage you to showcase any preliminary data or to present an overview of the project. We'd also love to hear ideas on what students and postdocs plan to do with ALMA in the future.

This workshop will also provide a way to measure local interest in ALMA and highlight future science projects. It presents a great opportunity for the community to learn about this new facility, to meet some of the key people involved, and to discuss future projects utilising ALMA. We encourage everyone to attend, especially students.

For more information on ALMA's early science capabilities, see the ALMA Early Science Cycle 0 announcement.

The workshop will be held at the CSIRO Astronomy and Space Science ATNF headquarters in Marsfield, Sydney. Morning tea, lunch, and afternoon tea will be provided. For nearby accommodation options see the Visitors Guide to the ATNF Headquarters.

There will be no registration fee for this workshop. Please email Jill Rathborne to confirm your attendance at the workshop. Please also include a title if you would like to present a science talk.

The list of registered participants can be found here.

Registration closes on January 23, 2012.

The workshop program is available here. The presentations can be downloaded here.
