Facilities for colloquium speakersComputer and softwarePlease use presentation software to prepare your talk. While we do have equipment to project transparencies, it will be very difficult for people at ATNF's remote sites (Canberra, Narrabri, and Parkes) to participate via teleconference. The Lecture theatre has a permanently installed computer running Windows 2000 Professional. Installed software includes Microsoft Office 2002, Open Office 2.0.1, Adobe Acrobat Reader 7.0.5, and Quicktime 6.5.2. You can bring your talk on CD, DVD, floppy disk, and USB drive. Please ensure in advance that your talk can be reproduced accurately with the installed software. This is even more true if you intend to show a movie or animation, which are difficult to play at times. Ask your contact person for help. Laptop computersMost people bring their own laptop computers for the presentation. We strongly advise that you test your setup well in advance. The projector connects to laptops using a standard 15-pin VGA plug, so make sure that you can connect and bring an adapter if necessary (this is usually the case for Apple laptops). Limited network access is available via WLAN and ethernet. WLAN details are given on a sign in the Lecture Theatre and the Workstation room. Making your talk availableThe preferred method to make your talk available is to email it as an attachment to the ATNF's archive at at_meetings(at)atnf.csiro.au. The talk will appear on an internal webpage and can be copied to the Lecture Theatre computer. This procedure has the advantage that people at ATNF's remote sites can download the talk as well and watch your slides while they are listening to you via teleconference. Even if you are bringing your talk on a medium or your own laptop, email a recent version to the archive so that other people can participate. It is not possible to email the talk to the list from outside the ATNF or from the Lecture Theatre computer, so do so on the day of your colloquium or ask your contact person to do it for you. |
