Fog forms when the air cools to its dew point, causing water vapour to condense. Canberra frequently experiences heavy winter morning fog due to its altitude (~600 meters above sea level) and cold, clear nights that trap cool air below warmer air layers. The Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex (CDSCC) is located in the Paddys River valley, with the valley topography also being conducive for foggy conditions.
