Giancarlo Ghirlanda Colloquium: Gamma Ray Bursts as multi-wavelength messengers

The Australia Telescope National Facility Colloquium
15:00-16:00 Wed 27 Nov 2013

Abstract

I will introduce the state of the art of what we know about GRBs and what we believe is their physical origin. The radiation mechanism(s), the progenitor nature and environment properties, the dynamics and geometry of the relativistic jets in GRBs and the role of GRBs in the wider cosmological context can be studied with a multi-wavelength approach. I will discuss the clues that can be derived from the observations of GRBs from the high energy to the radio band.
