I present the status on future prospects of the public survey as well as open time activties to showcase what SkyMapper can do for us in the near future, with an emphasis on low-redshift galaxies as well as quasars. Beyond data-quality and access issues I discuss ongoing efforts to create a value-added database with classifications and photometric redshifts, before I finish with an outlook to optical-radio synergy.
