ALMA Second Generation Correlator - Prof. Yoshihiro Chikada Colloquium

The Australia Telescope National Facility Colloquium
15:30-16:30 Mon 01 Jul 2002

ATNF Marsfield Lecture Theatre

Abstract

ALMA Second Generation Correlator (2GC) is intended to enhance spectral
capabilities of ALMA to have 80 antennas x 8 inputs x 2GHz bandwidth and 5 kHz resolution simultaneously. At present, Japanese plan for the 2GC is
FX-type with 1 million point FFTs, and European plan is hybrid-XF type. Both teams agreed to have a unified design and proceed further. To do so, they are going to have quotes from Japanese industries to compare their
cost/performance ratios. A brief introduction to Japanese design will be
given.
