A General Talk for Engineers on Modern Cosmology and the Cosmic Microwave Background - Dr Charley Lineweaver Colloquium

The Australia Telescope National Facility Colloquium
15:30-16:30 Wed 20 Nov 2002

ATNF Marsfield Lecture Theatre

Abstract

I will make a down-to-Earth presentation of the
most fundamental questions that cosmologists are asking
and answering: why the questions make sense, why
they are important and how they are being answered.

I will discuss recent measurements of the hot and cold
spots in the cosmic microwave background and how these (and
other measurements) are being used to determine the size,
age, composition and ultimate destiny of the Universe.
