HI in local galaxies and the intergalactic medium - Emma Ryan-Weber Colloquium

The Australia Telescope National Facility Colloquium
15:30-16:30 Wed 21 Jul 2004

ATNF Marsfield Lecture Theatre

Abstract

The process of writing a PhD thesis allows one to step back and think
about how everything fits together. In this talk I will review current
observations of neutral hydrogen (HI) in local galaxies and the
intergalactic medium (IGM). These observations, including those from
my PhD thesis, will be used to discuss the global evolution of HI, the
connection between galaxies and Lyman-alpha absorption systems and
assess conditions for star formation in the IGM.
