Structure and evolution of the stellar components in disk galaxies - Dr Ralf-Juergen Dettmar Colloquium

Abstract

The formation of disk galaxies still pose a problem for
models of structure formation. Some more insight is expected from studies addressing the growth of the outer disk or the secular evolution of components such as bulges. The talk will demonstrate how deep surface photometry can contribute to these discussions. It is also shown how ATCA HI observations corroborate some of the conclusions.
