Discerning Dark Energy - Brian Schmidt colloquium

Abstract

Since the discovery of an accelerating Universe in 1998, a variety of
experiments have been proposed to better constrain the source of the
acceleration. I will review several of these experiment types, including
supernovae, baryon acoustic oscillations, and weak lensing, and comment
on the possibilities of each method, as well as what I see are their
strengths and weaknesses. I will also present and pass comment on recent
supernova results by the Essence team (of which I am apart), as well
those of the SN legacy survey, and the Higher-Z program.
