How to contribute your own YERAC photos

Update

Note that some of the instructions below won't work any longer! Please contact Tobias Westmeier at tobias.westmeier(at)csiro.au if you want to upload your own YERAC pictures.

Creating your images:

First of all you should scale your photos to 640x480 (landscape) or 480x640 (portrait), using the graphic software of your choice. The images should be numbered from 01.jpg to xy.jpg. In addition, you should also provide a smaller version of each image with 160x120 (landscape) or 120x160 (portrait) which will be used as thumbnails for your gallery. These thumbnail images should then be named 01_s.jpg, 02_s.jpg etc.

Uploading your images:

Before transfering your pictures to our ftp server, make sure that they are combined in a zipped tar-archive. Under Linux/Unix this can be done by:

  • tar -c [directory] > [yourname.tar]
  • gzip [yourname.tar]

Here, [directory] is the source directory where your processed images are stored, and [yourname.tar] is the name of the resulting archive which should be firstname_lastname.tar. You can then upload your zipped tar-file to our ftp server:

  • ftp ftp.astro.uni-bonn.de
  • Name: anonymous
  • Password: your e-mail address
  • ftp> cd incoming/rcbruens/yerac
  • ftp> put [yourname.tar.gz]
  • ftp> quit

We reserve the right to publish only a sub-sample of your images, if necessary. Thank you very much for contributing your photos to our gallery.
